Connect your channel safely

Your channel will be connected to Videxa. You will know exactly what Videxa can see and how to keep your channel private to you.

In this lesson

  • Create a free account and connect your channel by @handle or link.
  • Explain why Videxa never needs your YouTube password.
  • Decide whether to verify ownership, and know what verifying changes and how long it lasts.

Create a free account

Open videxa.in/register. Fill in your name, your email and a password, type the password again in "Confirm password", then tap "Sign up".

The password needs at least 8 characters. It must have a capital letter, a small letter, a number and one of these symbols: ! @ # $ % ^ & *

Videxa then emails you a 6-digit code. Type it in and tap "Verify Email". The code works for 10 minutes. If it does not arrive, check your spam folder or tap "Resend verification code".

Or tap "Google" to sign up with your Google account. Then you need no new password and no email code.

If you make a password, make a new one. Never reuse your Google or YouTube password on another site, and that includes Videxa.

Connect your channel

The Free plan includes 1 channel, and one channel is all this course needs. Tap "Connect channel" on the Today page, or "Connect your channel" at the top of the screen. A box called "Add a channel" opens. It says: "Videxa reads public stats only. It never asks for your YouTube password."

The goal box can wait

Next, a box titled "One quick thing before we start" opens. It asks for a subscriber goal and how often you can upload.

Tapping "Later" is fine. Lesson 7 of this track, "Plan with a goal and the Calendar", walks you through goals.

No password, ever

As lesson 1 showed, Videxa reads only your channel's public data: subscribers, total views, number of videos, and your recent videos' titles, views, likes, comment counts, tags and descriptions.

It cannot see your private YouTube Studio numbers, such as how long people watch or how much you earn. Because it reads only public data, it never needs your YouTube password, and it never asks for it.

YouTube says it will never ask for your password, email address or other account information. It also says real emails from YouTube come only from @youtube.com or @google.com addresses [1].

So if any website, app or message asks you to type your YouTube password to "connect" or "verify" your channel, close it without typing anything. Lesson 4 of Getting good on YouTube, "Lock your channel: passwords, scams and fake shortcuts", covers these scams in full.

Signing in with Google is different. That sign-in happens in Google's own window or tab, and its address starts with accounts.google.com. Check the address before you type anything there.

Who else can see your stats

Connecting needs no proof that the channel is yours. That is why a name or a link is enough.

It also means that, until you verify, anyone with your channel link can connect your channel on Videxa. They can then follow its stats and Videxa's tips about it.

Nobody gets into your YouTube channel this way, because these numbers are public. Verifying simply keeps your channel on Videxa to yourself.

Verify ownership to make it private

To verify ownership means to prove to Videxa that the channel is yours. It is your choice, and it takes a few taps:

What verifying changes

If the Google account you chose does not own the channel, you see "Could not verify" and nothing changes. Tap "Try again", then "Verify with Google", and choose the right account.

When it works, you see "Your channel is verified", with the date it is "Verified until". From then on:

What verifying does not change

Verifying does not let Videxa see anything new. It still reads only public data, and your private YouTube Studio numbers stay in YouTube Studio.

How long it lasts

Verification lasts 20 days. About 3 days before it ends, Videxa emails you a reminder.

Once it has ended, the "Verify ownership" button comes back in Settings, on the "Ownership" tab. Verify again the same way. Until you do, other accounts can connect your channel again.

When the reminder arrives, put the end date in your phone's calendar, so you remember to verify again on that day.

Finding your way on a phone

On a phone, the tabs at the bottom are Today, Ask, Write, Channel and More. Calendar and Settings are under More.

Do

  • Remember that YouTube will never ask for your password, email address or other account information [1].
  • Paste your @handle if other channels have names like yours, so you connect the right one.
  • Read Google's permission screen before you continue.
  • Note the day your verification ends, and verify again once it has ended.

Don't

  • Typing your YouTube password into any site or app that offers to "connect" your channel.
  • Reusing your Google or YouTube password for your Videxa account.
  • Panicking when verification ends. Your channel stays connected, and you can verify again.

Connect, then decide about verifying

  1. Create a free account at videxa.in/register, or tap "Google" to sign up with your Google account.
  2. Tap "Connect channel". In "Channel link or @handle", paste your @handle or channel link, then tap "Add channel".
  3. When "One quick thing before we start" opens, tap "Later".
  4. Open Settings, then the "Ownership" tab, and read what it says.
  5. Decide whether to verify now. If you do, tap "Verify ownership", then "Verify with Google". Read Google's permission screen before you continue.
  6. If you verified, check that the "Ownership" section now says "Verified." and shows the days left. Write the end date in your phone's calendar.
