Free YouTube hashtag generator, a few that fit instead of fifty that do not
Describe your video in one line and get a short list of relevant hashtags, plus titles, a description and tags. It works in English, Hinglish and 8 more Indian languages.
Free, no signup. All free YouTube tools.
How to use the hashtag generator
- Write your video idea in one line, for example: Kolhapuri misal at home, spicy kat with simple ingredients.
- Choose the language your viewers watch in. Hashtags can be in English, Hinglish or a regional language.
- Press generate and read the hashtags. Keep the ones that describe your video honestly and drop the rest.
- Paste them at the end of your description in YouTube Studio, or put one or two in the title if they read naturally.
What YouTube says about hashtags
YouTube's own help page on hashtags is short and worth knowing, because a lot of advice online ignores it (YouTube Help: Find playlists and videos using hashtags).
You add a hashtag by typing # followed by a word in the title or the description. Each hashtag links to a page of other videos with the same hashtag.
Up to three of the hashtags from your description can appear by your video title. YouTube currently says it picks the ones it considers most engaging, so do not count on a fixed order.
If a video has more than 60 hashtags, YouTube ignores all of them on that video. Over-tagging can also lead to the video being removed from search.
Hashtags must follow the Community Guidelines. Hashtags that are misleading, unrelated to the video or offensive may not show and can be removed.
How many hashtags should you use?
YouTube does not give an ideal number, only the upper limit of 60. In practice, a small set that truly describes the video is easier for viewers to understand and safer than a long list. That is why the generator suggests a handful, not dozens.
A simple way to build the set: one hashtag for the topic (#kolhapurimisal), one for the broader category (#maharashtrianfood), and one for the format or series if you have one (#sundayrecipe). Add a language hashtag like #marathirecipe only if the video really is in that language.
Small rules that save you trouble
- No spaces inside a hashtag. A hashtag ends at the first space, so write #streetfoodindia, not #street food india.
- Keep them related to the video. A trending hashtag that has nothing to do with your video can mislead viewers and goes against YouTube's rules.
- Do not use another creator's channel name as a hashtag to borrow their audience.
- Devanagari and other Indian scripts work too, for example #मराठी or #हिंदी, if your viewers search that way.
- Hashtags in the title are fine in small numbers, but every hashtag takes space from the words a viewer reads first.
Hashtags, tags and keywords: what is the difference?
Hashtags are visible. Viewers see them in the description or by the title and can tap them. Tags are hidden words you add in the Tags field of YouTube Studio. YouTube says tags play a small role in discovery and are mainly useful when your topic is often misspelled (YouTube Help: Add tags to your YouTube videos).
Neither is a shortcut to views. What helps most is a clear title and a description that says what the video is about in plain words. The generator writes all of these together, so they agree with each other.
Hashtags for Shorts
The same rules apply to Shorts. Since a Short has less space for text on screen, pick the two or three hashtags that best describe it. A Short about a 30 second chai recipe needs #chai and perhaps #indianrecipes, not twenty food hashtags.
What a free account adds
Without an account you get a few free tries per hour. A free Videxa account adds your own voice, from a 2 minute quiz, and your channel's public details, so hashtags and titles match the series and topics your channel is already known for.

Questions
Is this YouTube hashtag generator free?
Yes. No account, no YouTube password, and a few free tries per hour.
How many hashtags can I add to a YouTube video?
YouTube does not set an ideal number, but if a video has more than 60 hashtags, YouTube ignores all of them (YouTube Help: Find playlists and videos using hashtags). A small, relevant set is the safer choice.
Where should I put hashtags, in the title or the description?
Either works. Most creators put them at the end of the description. Up to three hashtags from the description can appear by the title, so you rarely need them in the title itself.
Do hashtags increase views?
Hashtags help viewers find related videos and understand your topic, but no hashtag guarantees views. A clear title and a video people enjoy matter far more.
Can I use Hindi or Marathi hashtags?
Yes. Choose the language in the generator. Hashtags can be in Devanagari, Roman script or a mix, depending on how your viewers search.
What is the difference between hashtags and tags?
Hashtags are visible and clickable. Tags are hidden words in the Tags field of YouTube Studio, which YouTube says play a small role in discovery. Our free tags generator writes tags separately.
Does Videxa add hashtags to my video?
No. You copy the ones you want and paste them into YouTube Studio yourself.
