What it does

The part people see

The first lines show in search and under the video, so they say what the viewer gets.

Your links, every time

In the app, save your socials and links once and Write adds them to the end of every description.

A few hashtags

Two or three that describe the video, not a wall of them.

Ready to paste

Copy the description on its own, or the whole package with titles and tags.

Questions

How long should a YouTube description be?

The first two lines matter most, because they show in search. After that, a few more lines on what is inside help viewers and YouTube understand the video.

Can it add timestamps?

Put your chapters (0:00 Intro, 2:10 The masala) in your video details and keep them in the description. Chapters help viewers jump to the part they want.

Is it free?

Yes. The tool here works without an account for a few tries a day, and a free account gives you a daily allowance in Write.

Does it post to YouTube?

No. Copy it and paste it into YouTube Studio yourself.

How to use the description generator

  1. Describe the video: what happens in it, who it is for and anything a viewer needs, like ingredients, gear or the exam it covers.
  2. Pick the language of your video so the description reads naturally to your viewers.
  3. Generate, then read the opening lines first, since they are the part most people see.
  4. Add what only you know: your links, chapters with real timestamps, and any paid promotion disclosure.
  5. Paste it into the Description box in YouTube Studio.

YouTube's rules for descriptions

A description can be up to 5,000 characters and cannot contain invalid characters such as < or > (YouTube Help: Edit video settings, https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/57404). Most good descriptions use far less.

Chapters live in the description too. To add your own, list timestamps with a title each. The first timestamp must be 00:00, you need at least three in ascending order, and each chapter must be at least 10 seconds long (YouTube Help: Video chapters, https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/9884579).

Hashtags can go in the description. Up to three can show next to your title, and more than 60 makes YouTube ignore all of them (YouTube Help: Find videos using hashtags, https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/6390658). And keep keyword lists out: YouTube treats excessive tags in a description as spam (YouTube Help: Add tags to your YouTube videos, https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/146402).

What the first two lines should do

Under the video and in search, viewers usually see only the opening of your description before they tap to read more. Those first lines should work on their own: say what the video is, who it helps and what they will get by the end.

Write them as sentences, not keywords. "Kolhapuri misal at home, with a masala that lasts a month" beats "misal recipe misal pav kolhapuri misal easy".

A simple structure that works for most videos

  1. Two opening lines: what the video is and what the viewer gets.
  2. A short paragraph with more detail: what you cover, what you used, who it is for.
  3. Chapters, starting at 00:00, if the video is longer than a few minutes.
  4. Links people asked for: recipe, gear, notes, your other videos or playlists. Say what each link is.
  5. A disclosure if the video includes paid promotion or affiliate links.
  6. Two to five hashtags at the end.

Description ideas by video type

  • Recipe: the dish and the result in line one, servings and key ingredients next, then steps as chapters.
  • Review: the product, how long you used it and the main verdict, then what you tested, then honest pros and cons.
  • Travel vlog: the place, the number of days and the budget, then where you stayed and how you got there.
  • Study or tutorial: the exact topic or chapter and the class or exam, then what is covered, then where to find notes.
  • Short: one or two lines are enough. Say what happens and add a couple of hashtags.

Description mistakes to avoid

  • Starting with "Hi guys, welcome back" or a list of social links, which pushes the useful part out of view.
  • Pasting the same long description on every video.
  • Chapters that do not start at 00:00, so they do not show.
  • Links with no label, so viewers do not know where they lead.
  • Hashtags or keywords unrelated to the video, which YouTube's rules forbid.

Description checklist

  • The first two lines explain the video on their own.
  • Under 5,000 characters, and written as sentences.
  • Chapters start at 00:00, if you use them.
  • Every link is labelled.
  • A few hashtags, all about this video.

Questions

How long should a YouTube description be?

Long enough to explain the video and hold your links, often a few short paragraphs. YouTube allows up to 5,000 characters, but the first two lines matter most.

Does the description help my video get found?

It helps YouTube and viewers understand what the video is about. YouTube calls the title and description more important than tags, but no description guarantees views.

How do I add timestamps or chapters?

List timestamps with a title each in your description, starting at 00:00. You need at least three in order, and each chapter must be at least 10 seconds long.

Can it write descriptions in Hindi or Marathi?

Yes. Pick Hindi or Marathi for Devanagari, or Hinglish for Hindi in Roman script. Seven more languages are available too.

Where should hashtags go in the description?

At the end is the usual place, so they do not interrupt your opening lines. Keep to a few that describe the video.

Should I put keywords in my description?

Use the words viewers search for inside normal sentences, not as a list. A block of keywords in the description counts as spam under YouTube's policies.

Will the generator add my social links?

Not in the free tool. In a free account, you can save your links once and Videxa adds them to the end of every description.

Is the description generator free?

Yes, a few tries every hour with no account. Results are generic until you take the 2 minute voice quiz in a free account.
